It’s no secret that most of the big players in software development are still largely unknowns.
But this month, the likes of Adobe, Microsoft, Apple, Google and others have announced new hires, while many others are adding new teams of developers to their ranks.
The industry is booming, with software developers becoming increasingly influential in all aspects of the digital economy.
And this month’s job openings show that the tide is turning.
As of mid-February, the number of software developers in Australia stood at 8.7 million, up 3 per cent from the previous year, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
While the numbers have increased since the beginning of the year, the average salary of a software developer in Australia is still less than half that of a full-time employee in the United States.
But if you’re in the market for a job, you may be surprised to find out that a few companies are making some serious noise in this space.
These companies have created a whole new market for developers, with the latest hiring figures showing that Adobe’s new developer portfolio includes more than 4,500 full- and part-time jobs.
It’s a huge increase, as Adobe’s newly hired developer has an average salary above $100,000, and the average annual salary of Adobe’s full-timers is just $47,000.
The company’s new hiring highlights another trend that’s been going on for some time: more developers are entering the digital workforce in the US and elsewhere, and companies like Adobe are becoming increasingly successful at it.
The US-based Adobe is also one of the biggest players in the software development world, with more than half of its software development employees in Australia.
It was recently revealed that the software giant had been hiring developers to build applications for the Apple TV, which is a key market for the company, which recently announced that it would launch an online store of Apple products.
Last month, Adobe also announced the addition of three new Adobe developers to its team: a new one from South Africa, a veteran Australian who previously worked on Apple products, and a new employee from Italy.
In a statement, Adobe said: “These additions to our developer team represent the best of what we can offer in Australia and we look forward to welcoming more Australians to our community.”
This isn’t the first time that Adobe has added new talent to its workforce.
In 2015, Adobe added four new Adobe engineers to its software engineering team.
The growth of Adobe software development is a good sign for Australia’s overall software development sector, which continues to grow at a robust pace.
The numbers show that Australia is one of a handful of developed countries that have a higher proportion of software development workers than the US, but still remains far behind other developed countries in terms of hiring talent.
According to Adobe, more than three-quarters of software engineers working in Australia are in their 20s, which also means that the percentage of Australians in their early 20s working in the digital software industry is about half the US.
For those who are not interested in coding or working on the software side of the industry, there are other options.
There are a number of free online courses that teach you to code and learn from other people.
These online courses are still a niche and some courses, such as the Adobe course, are available only to Adobe customers.
For many, these online courses can provide the opportunity to find a mentor or find a job through an employer who can provide a salary or an accommodation that’s suitable for the length of their stay in the country.
